Balingup Small Farm Field Day
The Balingup Small Farm Field Day has now been held each April since 1991.
The day is for small landholders and lifestyle farmers, those with smaller properties than that catered for by the other large field days, and also for those who dream of one day becoming a small property owner. The objective is to promote sustainability, share knowledge and have an enjoyable family day out.
People from small farms and cottage industries exhibit and sell their produce and products. Information is also available from a wide variety of industry groups, and the local sports oval comes alive with over 200 stalls and information booths.
Each year a theme for the Field Day is selected as a special focus. Approximately a month prior to the actual day scarecrows appear all over the village as members of the community use their creative skills to interpret the theme for the year.
Exhibitors are encouraged to present their wares in a manner that compliments the theme, and the result can be seen in some very imaginative stalls.
Property visits are arranged throughout the day and these allow visitors to see how, with enthusiasm and hard work, owners are transforming bare paddocks into beautiful gardens and productive farms.
Property visits last approximately an hour and owners are happy to discuss their experiences. Buses take you to the properties and there is a small extra charge to cover the bus ticket.
Animals, food, all manner of crafts including woodwork and pottery, nursery plants, local wines and gourmet foods, small machinery and other farm equipment are on display and for sale. Entertainment is also provided for both the young and the young at heart, so there is something for everyone at the Field Day.
Admission charges for 2008 were: Adults $6, Children $3
