The Bibbulmun Track in Balingup


The Bibbulmun Track extends between Kalamunda in the Perth hills to Albany on the south coast of Western Australia, a distance of nearly 1000 kms.  It has a world-wide profile, and is recognised internationally as one of the world's great long distance walk trails.

The Bibbulmun Track winds through a wide range of different terrain types, passing through seven rural communities, and walkers experience some of the most beautiful sections of the South West of Western Australia.

All age, fitness and experience levels an be catered for, from a gentle stroll to a long adventure.  Walkers can have a wilderness experience by camping out in the many shelters provided along the track, or alternatively may relax in comfort in the accommodation provided in one of the towns along the way.  Day walks are also easy to organise from the many car access points.

The Bibbulmun Track is well marked by yellow reflective triangles depicting the Waugal or rainbow serpent (a creation being of great significance to the Nyoongar people). 

In the Balingup area, the Bibbulmun Track follows the valley and has spectacular views of jarrah and marri forests, plantations and picturesque farmlands.  Detailed maps are available from the Balingup Tourist Information Centre.

A stay in Balingup provides the walker with a choice of many different day walks, ranging in difficulty and length from 6 km to 24 km.  As a service to our guests at Chestnut Brook Cottage, we are happy to drop you off on the track so that you can walk back to the cottage at your leisure.
