Balingup to Donnybrook via Upper Capel Road
Scenic Drive

This trip can be taken when returning to Bunbury or Perth, or as a round trip from Balingup and is perhaps one of the most picturesque in the area.  This is a very hilly and scenic drive and in spring wildflowers can be seen along the roadside.

The distance of the route between Balingup and Donnybrook via Upper Capel Road is 42km.

Begin by driving north from Balingup along the South Western Highway until you reach Kirup (approx 13 km).   Turn left at Kirup into the Upper Capel Road.  The drive will take you through hills, grazing land and orchards.  In the area are old goldmining workings and a quarry from which the famous Donnybrook Stone is taken.

The drive takes you past the Old Goldfields Cider Factory (which is on Goldfields Road) where you may stop and taste the apple cider or have a meal.   Closer to Donnybrook, Upper Capel Road joints Goodwood Road and the entry to Donnybrook is well signposted.

A  good alternative to this route is to turn right into Ryalls Road from the Upper Capel Road soon after leaving Kirup, and continue on Ryalls Road until it joins the Upper Capel Road again, where you then turn right to continue your journey.
The road into Donnybrook is well signposted as you approach the town.
